The Jayhawks

Few American bands have done more to blur the boundaries between country, folk and alternative rock than The Jayhawks, who bring more than four decades of finely crafted songwriting to the Brighton Dome's Corn Exchange on 15 September. Emerging from Minneapolis during the post-punk era alongside The Replacements and Hüsker Dü, the band developed a distinctive sound that married close harmonies and rootsy instrumentation with the energy and sensibility of alternative rock. In doing so, they helped lay much of the groundwork for the Americana movement that followed.

Led by founder Gary Louris, alongside Marc Perlman, Karen Grotberg and Tim O'Reagan, the Jayhawks arrive in Brighton with a remarkable catalogue spanning twelve studio albums. Their influences stretch from The Band and Neil Young to classic country and British pop, producing songs that are melancholy without being miserable, melodic without becoming predictable.
